So, today we had our first show…. It went better than I expected. For those of you who I haven’t told what I am doing, we have two hours to load in our set, do a mic check, vocal warm up, physical warm up, and get ready for the show. It’s not a lot of time for what we have to do. We got it all done, just barely. Overall the show went very well; it was great to have an audience of kids who react to what we are doing.
After our show, we drove to Miami from Ft. Lauderdale which took 45 minutes. Not too bad. Since we had an entire afternoon free, the whole group decided to go to a local mall and grab lunch, and then walk around before going to see Shutter.
There were a few problems with my day from this point forward…. First, no one in the mall spoke English. No joke. It was “The Mall of the Americas,” and it was a Hispanic mall. Second, Chance and I grabbed lunch from the Chinese food place in the food court… again they only spoke Spanish. Plus- the food was terrible. Third, we all went to get ice cream in the food court, I got mint chocolate chip in a waffle cone. It was really good until I found a dark hair in my ice cream and freaked out. The women were very nice, again no English, and gave me a free cone larger than what I had ordered plus sprinkles. Fourth, the movie Shutter is not a horror/suspense movie as advertised- to our entire group it was a comedy. I love horror movies and this one just did not get even close to the genre even if Joshua Jackson was the lead male.
Needless to say, we all had a wonderful day even with some bumps in the road. I am glad we have our first show under our belt and many more to look forward to. We have a show in Miami tomorrow morning, and then we are going to spend the afternoon running around the city, then back to Ft. Lauderdale for more shows.
Keep me posted on life, and what’s going on wherever you are.
Love ~me.
